Summary: Felicity views going away to college as an opportunity to mature into a confident young woman, but her new beginning turns out to be more of an adventure than she bargains for when she finds that her school is plagued by vampires!
Cain is an elder vampire who displays quiet confidence even as he struggles to overcome sins of his past. Surprisingly, he found that in losing his life he gained his faith and a purpose.
His mission: find the hostile vampires that inhabit this small college town, and educate them to live in peace with humans. Their leader, Sindy, is a wicked temptress who has set her sights on Felicity's new friend Ben. She will be difficult to control, but after meeting Felicity, Cain's most difficult task lies in controlling himself.
Together they join an ensemble cast of characters to navigate the difficulties of addiction and desire; the perils of zombies and vampires; and struggles with abuse, morality and... college.

Fatal Infatuation is the first book in the first trilogy of the Almost Human series by Melanie Nowak. I have the next two books in the trilogy that I will be reviewing for you later. I wanted to treat each book in the trilogy separate and I couldn't wait to tell you that I really enjoyed this book. The book takes place on a small college campus in New York. Felicity is the main characters. She's from a small town and hopes to reinvent herself and try new things in this next stage of her life. She gets a real eye opener when she learns the college has a vampire problem.  One of the many things I liked about this book is Felicity's reaction to learning that vampires are real. Not just her reaction but that she had one. I don't know about you but if I found out vampires were real, I definitely would not be passive about it. Felicity isn't either. She goes all Buffy and learns to kick some butt. I really like Felicity. She has some gumption and guts. She's vulnerable, smart, naive, and very likable. The characters in this book are fantastically written. The banter between Ben, Allie and Felicity is great. Cain, the brooding, elder vampire is pretty hot. If he wanted to come over and teach me some martial arts, I wouldn't say no. Cain and Felicity's relationship starts off as friendship but develops deeper. I like that the story line is not rushed between those two. Cain and Felicity have many obstacles to overcome such as Sindy.  Sindy is the bad vampire in this book. She is hard, calculating, and sexy. Sindy is up to no good and wants to have fun no matter what the price. Cain tries very hard to show her another way but she is stubborn.  Melanie Nowak has written her characters in such a way that they keep developing before your eyes. She keeps you guessing as to what is going to happen next.  I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book. I really enjoyed this book, it made me want to stay up all night to read.
