1 Interview with Imogen Rose and giveaway

Today I'm excited to have Imogen Rose, author of The Portal Chronicles. I loved Portal because it was unlike any book I have read in a long time. February is the perfect month to highlight a book I love.

1. First, could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
First of all, thank you for having me. I love your blog. I am a fun-loving shopoholic. I am also a mother to two girls and a little Chihuahua. Although I was born in Sweden, I have now spent most of my life outside it, mostly between the United Kingdom and the United States. I am currently based in New Jersey. I spent most of my adult life, so far, in London where I completed my PhD (in Surgery/Immunology), got my first job (at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington) and had my first daughter. A new job opportunity for my husband meant a move to New Jersey where I had my second daughter. I feel settled here now, but who knows where my life will take me next!

 2. How did you come up with the idea for this book?
I have always been a storyteller (most parents probably are) making up bedtime stories and other fantasies to keep my children entertained (I used to pretend that there was a hippo living in my neighbors shed to keep my younger daughter amused). This particular story was born in a dream. I have dreamed in stories all my life, sometimes even in sequels. However, there are things that occurred in my life that must have sparked this particular dream. When I look back, it was probably heavily influenced by my mother’s unexpected death and my consuming need for her.

3. I love the main character, Arizona. She’s different then most heroines today. Is Arizona, based on anybody in real life?
Arizona’s character is very loosely based on my own character, with hints of my own teenager. The product is someone totally fictional.

4. Do you play hockey?
I did, but not competitively. That part of Arizona is based on my teen, who is an awesome ice-hockey player, and was the lone girl in her varsity ice hockey team. She is now in college and still plays competitively.

5. How many books will be in this series?
I am not sure! I never set out to become a writer. The first book happened in small sections, purely as a tool to keep my daughter entertained. It was not planned. Even now, when I sit down to write, I have no idea what I will be typing. It keeps me entertained; I don’t know what’s coming up page to page. When Harry appeared on Portal, I went aww to myself.

6. Can you give us a hint about what happens in the upcoming books?
I’d love to, but I have no idea!

Just for fun:
7. Elvis or The Beatles?
Mick Jagger is my man from that era... can I choose The Rolling Stones?
8. Chocolate of Vanilla?  Chocolate!
9. Favorite book? 1984 by George Orwell
10. Favorite movie?
Go ahead and laugh.... Twilight, loved it!

I want to thank Imogen Rose for taking time and coming on the blog. As I mentioned before I love Portal. If you haven't read it, you should! It's available at Amazon and B&N.

Come Find Me Two Years Ago...
Six words that propelled ice hockey playing tomboy, Arizona, into an alternate dimension.
She suddenly found herself in the past. In one moment she went from being an ice hockey playing teenager in New Jersey to a glamorous cheerleader in California. She found herself transported from a happy life with her dad, Dillard, to a new, strange one living with her mother whom she hates. Apparently it's a life she's always lived in.
Everyone knows her as Arizona Darley, but she isn't. She is Arizona Stevens.
As she struggles to find answers she is certain of one thing- that her mother Olivia, a brilliant physicist, is somehow responsible.
