June Is Audiobook Month (JIAM) and to celebrate Audio Publishers Association has teamed up with a bunch of bloggers for a month-long celebration! Audiobooks have been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I can't remember the first book I listened to, but I remember it was on cassette tapes.

It's not hard to guess that I love to read. After all, I have a blog dedicated to reading. But life sometimes gets in the way of the books I want to read. And that's one of the reasons I love audiobooks so much. I listen while I do laundry. I listen while I clean. But mostly, I listen while I knit. Not only that, the right narrator can really make a book go from fantastic to amazing! Audiobooks aren't for everyone, but in case you're new to this world, I have some recommendations for you!

1. Listen to your favorite book on audio. I did this with Jane Eyre earlier this year. I've read this book at least a dozen times, but never listened to it. And it was amazing! Parts of the story that never really stood out to me before suddenly were front and center. I absolutely loved it. Thandie Newton was fantastic.

2. You'll need your earbuds for this one. Read a romance. One of my favorite genres to listen to is romance. Robert Petkoff is an amazing narrator and he also happens to narrate one of my favorite series Immortals After Dark.

3. A mystery! If you're going on a road trip, this is a great genre to listen to. And who better to listen to than the Queen of Mystery herself: Agatha Christie. I'm a member of Audible and they put out some amazing books. This audiobook in particular is narrated by a full cast. There are many different versions of Murder on the Orient Express available. Dan Stevens and Kenneth Branagh each have narrated this book and, from what I could tell, are fantastic.

4. Listen to audiobooks with your family. There are many great books out there that you and your kids will love. Get the kids out from behind their screens and spend a few hours (or more) a week listening to an audiobook. Harry Potter is a good place to start. My son has dyslexia and listening to audiobooks has helped him tremendously when it comes to reading. He often listen as he reads. So if your child has difficulty reading, then audiobooks might be right for you.

5. This goes out to all the science fiction fans out there: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. This is a hilarious book narrated by the multi-talented Stephen Fry. This is a laugh-out-loud novel that will make you want to grab your towel to go on an epic journey.

  1. Yes, Robert Petkoff is amazing, isn't he? I haven't listened to Cole's IAD series but I did listen to the spin-off, The Dacians and loved it. I also love Jim Frangione's narration of J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

As for classics, I just listened to White Fang by Jack London narrated by John Lee and it was fantastic! I love listening to classics on audio. I still haven't read/listened to Jane Eyre, but that's on my list :)

My very first audiobook is my favourite recommendation: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. It wasn't just a narration, it's a performance by a cast of multiple narrators. I just loved it and that's what made me fall in love with audiobooks. Now is an opportune time to listen with the movie coming out this year!

    Thanks for the giveaway!
