The Dead Travel Fast by Deanna Raybourn

This is the first novel I have read by Deanna Raybourn. I was impressed. The story is about a woman named Theodora Lestrange who lives in Edinburgh in 1858. Her grandfather dies leaving her a small inheritance. Society dictates that she should find a husband and settle down. Theodora has other plans. She intends to be a writer. An opportunity for travel comes in the form of a wedding invitation from a childhood friend who lives in Transylvania. Theodora embarks on the journey with lots of enthusiasm. This is with the mystery begins. This story is full of twists and turns, superstitions and old traditions. Theodora is left wondering what is real and what is not. Who are her real friends? Who can she trust? I started to read this book and did not want to put it down. I found myself staying up to the wee hours of the morning just to finish it. It reminds me of Anne Radcliffe and some of the classic Gothic tales except this was a little sexier. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of classic Gothic fiction.
