Twilight of the Abyss by Casey Childers

Image
Title: Twilight of the Abyss Author: Casey Childers Publisher: Create Space Publication Date: April 5, 2010 ISBN-13: 978-1449998424 When Elizabeth and Darcy meet in Hertfordshire, insults are avoided and they fall in love together. However, when Darcy's family experiences a scandal, he is forced to choose between love and honour. A "Pride and Prejudice" variation, Twilight of the Abyss explores an alternative path for Jane Austen's beloved novel. * I love to read sequels and ‘what if’ stories fans of Jane Austen write. I love to see how other people in vision her characters and see what direction they take them in. Casey Childers does this in her ‘what if’ story, Twilight of the Abyss. What if Darcy wasn’t such a prick in Hertfordshire? What if they fell in love? What if circumstances still kept them a part? These are the questions that are asked and answered in this story. Overall I liked the story. It kept me wondering what was going to happen next. The story its

My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares

Title: My Name is Memory Author: Ann Brashares Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton Publication Date: June 1, 2010 paperback 324 pages ISBN: 9780-340-95349-5 recieved from: Crazy Book Tours Daniel has spent centuries falling in love with the same girl. Life after life, crossing continents and dynasties, he and Sophia (despite her changing name and form) have been drawn together-and he remembers it all. Daniel has "the memory", the ability to recall past lives and recognize souls of those he's previously known. It is a gift and a curse. For all the times that he and Sophia have been drawn together throughout history, they have also been torn painfully, fatally, apart. A love always too short. Many of you are probably familiar with Ann Brashares for writing the Sister of the traveling pants series. This was the first book I read by her. My first thought was: What could be more romantic then two people reincarnated over and over to be with each other? I like this book beca

The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause

Title: The Silver Kiss Author: Annette Curtis Klause Publisher: Laurel Leaf Published: 1990 Details: Paperback 198 pages ISBN: 0-440-21346-0 Picture is from Goodreads Summary is from back cover “Zoë is wary when, in the dead of night, the beautiful but frightening Simon comes to her house. Simon seems to understand the pain of loneliness and death and Zoë’s brooding thoughts about her dying mother. Simon is one of the undead, a vampire, seeking revenge for the gruesome death of his mother three hundred years ago. Does Simon dare ask Zoë to help free him from this lifeless chase and its intolerable solitude?” I wasn’t actually looking for this book when I came across it. At the time, I was more familiar with Klause’s Blood and Chocolate. I decided to give it a chance when the summary got my attention. The story is told from both Simon and Zoë’s point of view. Zoë feels completely alone. Her mom has cancer and is in the hospital. Her dad is constantly by her mother’s side. Zoë is bas

Shadow of the Vampire by Meagan Hatfield

Image
Even vampires should never sleep with the enemy. Vampire princess Alexia Feodorovna has been undead for 125 years, so it's been a while since any man has made her pulse race. Until Declan Black. One look at his bronzed body and a fire like no other consumes her. Then she discovers that he's a dragon lord come to take revenge on the vamps who killed his parents. And claim a crystal said to imbue its owner with incredible powers. Alexia is ordered to torture and kill the dragon lord. Yet with each reckless encounter, she finds herself consumed by his fiery passion. A passion Declan battles, as well. Will he be able to resist the fire of lust she kindles within him and keep revenge in his heart? Or will he risk everything to quench the burning desire and claim the vampire as his own? **may contain spoilers** One thing that matters to me when reading a romance is the story line. If it doesn’t have a good story, then the romance goes out the window for me. I did not have to wo

Fangland by John Marks

Image
Picture from Goodreads **may contain spoilers** The first think that got my attention was the cover of Fangland. It’s very dark and mysterious and splattered with blood. My kind of book. When I received Fangland in the mail I began reading it at once. Evangeline Harker is a producer. She goes to Transylvania to interview Ion Torgu. Torgu is very mysterious man with all kinds of secrets. Is he a criminal? Is he a vampire? Is he something worse? What I like about the book: The newsroom characters were quirky, from a civil war reenactor to someone thinking the network is always 'out to get them' . I found them very entertaining. The story was told from different perspectives. Some of the story was told through email and journal entries. I liked this because you got to see the mayhem that was happening back at the office. I liked the characters reactions because they were mostly believable. I liked the story line. It kept me interested and curious on what was going on. The endi
