Sunday Confessions Nov. 28, 2010

This is a weekly meme started by yours truly as a way to get to share a bit about myself and also learning more about you. Sometimes its about books and book related topics and sometimes it's not. This is all in good fun and I would love it if you would participate.  Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! This weekend has been so busy with friends, family and food.  Today we put up our Christmas decorations. My kids get so excited decorating the tree. I give them free range and very little direction.  My husband gets a little crazy putting on the lights. Every year we have the same conversation. He always insists that we need more lights and I disagree. Clark Griswold has nothing on him!  I'm pretty sure you are able to see our Christmas tree from space.  Decorating the Saturday after Thanksgiving has become a tradition for my family. So my question this week is:  When do you put up your Christmas decorations, before or after Thanksgiving?  You don&

A Rose for My Mother by Nancy Lee Canfield

Title: A Rose for My Mother Author: Nancy Lee Canfield Publisher: iUniverse Publication Date:  June 16, 2010 paperback, 288 pages ISBN: 978-1-4502-3123-7 Summary: In this extraordinary true story, parapsychology expert Nancy Lee Canfield reveals how her early years shaped and prepared her for a lifetime of studying the paranormal. A Rose for My Mother chronicles Canfield's turbulent childhood in and out of foster homes and orphanages before the age of thirteen, her early marriage at seventeen, and her awakening to paranormal phenomena. A Rose for My Mother is an intriguing blend of memoir and the study of parapsychology.  Do you believe in the paranormal?  Do you think some people are more 'sensitive' than others?  I have absolutely no experience with the paranormal. I've never seen anything or heard anything that lets me know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it exits. However that doesn't stop me from being fascinated on the subject. That is one of the r

A promise which, if broken, would lead to horrifying consequences. This book looked really interesting when I read the summary. There were aspects of the book that I did like.  I really like the concept of this book but at times I felt lost.    I did like Iara

Sunday Confessions Nov. 21, 2010

It's time once again for Sunday Confessions.  This is a weekly meme started by yours truly as a way to get to share a bit about myself and also learning more about you. Sometimes its about books and book related topics and sometimes it's not. This is all in good fun and I would love it if you would participate.  A few weeks ago we got a kitten. That's right! I finally talked my husband into one. Growing up I had a kitty that I loved and she even went to college with me. She was a great pet and I miss her. We already have a dog named Scamp. He's a shy dog and we thought he could use some company. So after hours and hours of persuasion, my husband finally relented and now we have our kitten. We had a huge debate over what to name her. My kids wanted names like 'ketchup' and 'princess pony'. I wasn't a fan of either names. In the past we have let our kids name our pets. We've had hamsters named Buzz, Starscream and Penelope. They even named our d

Dracula in Love by Karen Essex

Title: Dracula in Love  Author: Karen Essex Publisher: DoubleDay Publication Date: August 10, 2010 Hardcover, 372 pages ISBN: 978-0-385-52891-7 From the shadowy banks of the River Thames to the wild and windswept coast of Yorkshire, the quintessential Victorian virgin Mina Murray vividly recounts in the pages of her private diary the intimate details of what transpired between her and Count Dracula—the joys and terrors of a pas sionate affair and her rebellion against a force of evil that has pursued her through time.   Mina’s version of this timeless gothic vampire tale is a visceral journey into the dimly lit bedrooms, mist-filled cemeteries, and locked asylum chambers where she led a secret life, far from the chaste and polite lifestyle the defenders of her purity, and even her fiancĂ©, Jonathan Harker, expected of her.   Bram Stoker’s classic novel was only one side of the story. Now, for the first time, Dracula’s eternal muse reveals all. What she has to say is more sen

Sunday Confessions Nov. 13, 2010

It's time once again for Sunday Confessions.  This is a weekly meme started by yours truly as a way to get to share a bit about myself and also learning more about you. Sometimes its about books and book related topics and sometimes it's not. This is all in good fun and I would love it if you would participate.  The topic for this week's Sunday Confessions is "being thankful". With Thanksgiving coming up it is common for people to think about reasons to be thankful. I know my family does. I have to be honest with you, sometime I forget to be thankful.  I take for granted the  opportunities  granted to me and I take for granted the people closest to me. Often people don't realize this until it's too late. Until they have lost what matters most.  I had a rude awakening this week. How, you ask?  On  Tuesday  morning of this past week, my husband left to go to work. It was a beautiful morning. He kissed me goodbye before he left, just like always. I was occu

Sunday Confessions Nov. 7, 2010

It's time once again for Sunday Confessions.  This is a weekly meme started by yours truly as a way to get to share a bit about myself and also learning more about you. Sometimes its about books and book related topics and sometimes it's not. This is all in good fun and I would love it if you would participate.  This weeks topic is about books I loved as a child. There are certain books that I've read growing up that hold a special place in my heart. When ever I come across them they always stir up warm fuzzy feelings. Now that I'm a parent I find myself reading some of these books again and hoping my children will love them as much as I did and still do.  Here are a few of them: I loved, loved, loved this book. Did I mention that I loved this book. I think I had my mom read it to me at least twice a night for many months.    This is a great book. When I was five years old, I could think of nothing cooler than having a big red dog.  This is another favorite. I

I'm Back!

I'm back from vacation! I bet you didn't even know I was gone because I scheduled a few posts while I was away so my blog wouldn't be lonely. My family and I spent a week at the beach. We had a lot of fun and I did some reading. I read some great books that I can't wait to tell you about! Here are some pictures from our family vacation. This bird was hanging out on the beach one evening. I guess he was looking for his dinner. We named him Fred. LOL We also saw jelly fish, crabs, dolphins and lots of stingrays. It was really cool!                                   and of course the sunrises and sunsets were gorgeous! I had a great week and I hope that you did too!
