Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.
The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

I won my copy of Matched from Ms. Martin Teaches Media. I was super excited because I really wanted to read this book. I try to stay away from reviews on books I'm reading because I don't want them to influence my opinion on the book, but I did sneak a peek here and there to see what everyone else thought. Reactions to this book ranged from absolutely loved or it was okay. My opinion falls somewhere in the middle. Matched is a dystopian novel set in a futuristic society that decides everything for the population. I mean EVERYTHING! The decide what you eat and how much, they monitor dreams, they even choose who you marry. This is all for the best or so the Society has you to believe. Cassia is the main character in this novel. She goes along with the rules never challenging anything or anyone until a computer glitch opens her eyes. I especially liked seeing the progression of her character.  I liked the others characters in this novel, too. Cassia, Ky and Xander are all well written, likable characters. The chemistry between Ky and Cassia was really good. I enjoyed the story line. It's interesting and a bit mysterious. It wasn't until I was half way through the book that things really started to pick up for me. After that I didn't want to put it down. Matched is the first book in a trilogy. I'm really excited to see where Ally Condie takes this series. If you haven't put this title on your TBR list, you definitely should.

  1. LOL on the "stay away from reviews of books I'm reading"...I do as well, or at least for those on the near horizon. I want to enter the experience of reading it untainted by any other opinions so if it's coming up soon....avoidance is my only solution. for your review, sounds like you enjoyed it. I did as well. This is one of those stories that doesn't scream greatness at every page but whispers it for those that give it a chance. Can't wait for the next one....thanks for sharing your experience! Happy reading...

  2. I'm the worst for reading tons of reviews about a book before I read it. Hmm, perhaps it does influence my opinion a bit now that I'm thinking about it. But I just really like to be sure that I'm going to like a book before I buy it.
