This is a weekly meme started by yours truly as a way to get to share a bit about myself and also learning more about you. Sometimes its about books and book related topics and sometimes it's not. This is all in good fun and I would love it if you would participate.
Are you a moody reader?
I have to admit that I am.  I would love to say I can pick up any book at any time and read it but I can't. If there is one book or genre in particular that I am jonesing to read, no other book will do until I've read it.  If I try to read another book, I don't find it interesting or entertaining. This doesn't happen to me all the time but it does happen every few months.  So what about you?

Guest Post and Giveaway with Tracy Falbe

Image
I have the pleasure of having Tracy Falbe here today. She is the author of several fantasy fiction novels including Union of Renegades and The Goddess Queen.  Today she'll be sharing with us the value of side-kicks:

Heroes need help - My salute to the sidekick
By Tracy Falbe

Not every hero has one, but they all could use a trustworthy friend who will stick by him or her no matter what. You may think that heroes must face danger alone and surmount great odds through individual brawn or intellect, but when I look at fiction, I see many dependable sidekicks. As Frodo declared at the end of the movie The Two Towers, "Frodo would not have gotten far without Sam."
I'm not in love with the term sidekick. It minimizes these important characters that break heroes out of prison, find antidotes to poison, take bullets, and generally act as action hero secretaries. Many hero-enablers are on almost equal standing with their more-frequently-kissed counterparts. Spock from Star Trek co…

Hardcover, 128 pages
ISBN:1416928170(ISBN13: 9781416928171)

After all the vegetables in the Monroe kitchen start turning white, Chester and Harold are certain that Bunnicula is a vegetarian vampire.

I came across this book while I was actually looking for another book at my local bookstore. I picked it up because the title Bunnicula made me smile. I read the blurb on the back to my kids and they immediately agreed we need to read this book.  Bunnicula was first published in 1979 but I was not familiar with it.  This book was a total win in all areas.  The book is told from Harold, the family dog's, perspective.  Harold is a friendly,…

This is a weekly meme started by yours truly as a way to get to share a bit about myself and also learning more about you. Sometimes its about books and book related topics and sometimes it's not. This is all in good fun and I would love it if you would participate.
Saturday I went to an antique shop. In this shop they had many old wardrobes. While I was admiring one in particular I asked my children if they wanted to get inside and see if it would take them to Narnia. My oldest child looked at me and said "you know Narnia is not a real place?". Of course I know it's not a real place, but that got me thinking. If you could be transported into any book, what book would it be? This was a hard question to answer myself. At first I thought Narnia but only after the white witch has been defeated because I'm tired of being cold. My next thought was Pride and Prejudice. I'd throw Lizzy in front of a carriage and have a go at Mr. Darcy. Then I thought since murder is…

This is a weekly meme started by yours truly as a way to get to share a bit about myself and also learning more about you. Sometimes its about books and book related topics and sometimes it's not. This is all in good fun and I would love it if you would participate.
Since tomorrow is Valentines Day, I thought we could talk about something we all love. Books. I couldn't tell you the exact day or the book that made me fall in-love with reading. All I know is that I've been an avid reader for most of my life.  I have a hard time understanding why some people never want to pick up a book. When trying to explain to a non-reader what my fascination with reading is the image that pops in my mind is the wardrobe from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe or the mirror from Alice Through the LookingGlass. Opening a book is like stepping into another world. From my couch I can time travel, sail across the universe to new galaxies, fall in love and defeat vile villains. You can live a…

But there's a mystery at Thornfield, and Jane's much-envied relationship with Nico is tested by a torturous secret from his past.

Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books. So when I discovered this modern day retelling of it, I was thrilled. I really liked how April Lindner brought Charlotte Bronte's classic into the 21st century. Jane Moore has to drop out of college and take on a job as a nanny after her parents are killed in a ca…
