Sunday Confessions March 13, 2011
This is a weekly meme started by yours truly as a way to get to share a bit about myself and also learning more about you. Sometimes its about books and book related topics and sometimes it's not. This is all in good fun and I would love it if you would participate.
This week's question has to do with something I struggled with this week: Trying to finish a book that didn't grab my attention. I'm not even sure it was the books fault per se. As you might have read in a previous confession, I am a moody reader. A lot has been going on this week and my mind seemed restless. However it is my own personal goal to try to finish every book I start. I did push through and finish. I'm glad I did because I ended up liking the book in the end. I know some people who have a 50 page or 100 page rule, stating if the book doesn't grab their attention by said amount of pages, they give it up. So my question this week is:
What do you do if a book doesn't grab your attention?
*If you answer this question on your own blog please leave a link in the comments so I can come visit.
I finish reading it. It's a pride thing. I finish every book that I start, but it doesn't mean I'm happy about it. That's why it is so important for me to choose wisely when picking books. I will admit... I have started one particular book by one particular famous author and could not stomach... it was awful... and I did not finish. But it has only happened to me once :)
ReplyDeleteI find it funny how you cant dislike a book but still like the ending. Books are a magically thing. (: haha

Gah, I still feel guilty about recently quitting on a book. Great question, Marcie :)

Rare, but if a book doesn't grab my attention, I break up with it. Yep, that's right, I break up with it. I sit it down and give it "It's not you, it's me" speech (lol - j/k).
ReplyDeleteI don't rate/review it either. I just set it aside or donate it. Someone is bound to love it eventually, right? After all, it's not the book's fault. It's just not my cup of tea. :)
Love this question! Here's my post...

@Alexis, It's only happened to me a few times as well.
ReplyDelete@The Book Pages, It is funny how a book can turn around. That's why I try to finish because you never know.
@Zakiya, I feel guilty too when I don't finish a book.
@Ketch1714, I've read books before that people love and rave about and they haven't been my cup either. I don't rate or review books I haven't finished. I've only broken up with a books about 5 times in my life.
Thank you all for your comments :D
I also try to finish every book I start!
