Sunday Confessions April 3, 2011

This is a weekly meme started by yours truly as a way to get to share a bit about myself and also learning more about you. Sometimes its about books and book related topics and sometimes it's not. This is all in good fun and I would love it if you would participate.

This week's question:
Which do you prefer, a physical book or an e-reader ?

When the e-readers first came out I remember thinking to myself  'who would want to read a book on that?' It's true, I prejudged the e-readers. As time went on, I heard a lot of positive things about them. Then my brother-in-law bought one. I asked him a bunch of questions and played around with the e-reader and realized it was not as bad as I originally thought. This is when I decided that I wanted one for myself. I did some research and found the one that was best for me. Then I did what any person would do and put it on my Christmas list.  I love my Kindle. I named it 'The Precious' and I say it in a Gollum type voice. I love that you can store lots of books on it. It's lightweight and easy to use. However as much as I love my Kindle it does not compare to an actual book. There is something so magical about opening a book and getting lost in the pages. I love turning pages! I also love looking at book covers. I know with the e-readers you can view the covers but it's not the same as an actual book cover. There are many advantages to an e-reader but for me I  prefer an actual book to the e-book.  So what about you? Do you have a preference?

If you answer this question on your own blog, please leave me a link in the comments so I can come visit.

  1. It took me a very long time to warm up to eReaders. Because so many review books came in digital form, I broke down and bought a Nook. I love it! Now I prefer eBooks over paper, and I never thought that would would happen. I call mine Nookie. Not original, but cute!

  2. e-readers are great when I'm travelling, but nothing comes close to the smell and feel of paper when I have the luxury of curling up on the couch :)

  3. Both! I love my Ereader when I'm running errands, have limited space, or traveling. I love my paperback when I'm curled up in chair with my blanket...or in my bathtub (so much easier to replace paper).

I love books whatever the form!

  4. I read an eclectic mix of genres depending on my mood. But that gets tricky for travel so I can see where an e-reader would be convenient. I do have an iPad but it's not that light-weight so it's hard to hold and read for an extended duration. For that reason, I can see myself possibly investing in an e-reader.

But I prefer paper in books, magazines, and newspapers.

  5. I'm still fighting the good fight with eReaders. My step-mom has a Nook. I tried to play with it one day. I had to put it down after a few minutes. I was not loving it. I always thought real books were going to be the thing to stay just as they are forever. It makes me sad that this isn't true. I'm not against anyone who has an eReader, but for myself I just can't justify the concept.

  6. I so in love with physical books and getting lost in their pages that I still don't own a ereader of any kind. Not that I have anything against ereaders. They're just not my style. :)

  7. I prefer physical because i love the smell (:

  8. @Diana, I think nookie is a cute name.
I think ereaders are great for travel too. I like that it's small. I would never want an ereader to take the place of books. I still by more physical books than ebooks.
