Goodreads Summary:
Sebastian Montgomery never thought he’d inherit a title. Quite comfortable in his role as the family black sheep, he has made a life for himself as one of England’s most valuable agents against Napoleon. Now he will be expected to remain at home as the Earl of Lisle, fulfilling all manner of domestic duties... starting with finding a wife and ensuring the continuance of the family line.

Kitty Bennet met Seb when he was just Mr. Montgomery and quickly developed a crush on him–feelings she now assumes will remain unrequited, as an earl is out of her reach. Sebastian however has no interest in a grand alliance. If he must marry, he will choose a wife with the capacity for intelligent conversation. Kitty’s gift for witty banter draws him to her; any affection he feels for her is simply an added bonus.

But their potential happiness is threatened by someone they don’t even know: the man who killed Sebastian’s grandfather and uncle. When the danger becomes real, Sebastian realizes that, almost against his will, he has fallen in love with Kitty. Can he solve a decades old family mystery in time to keep her safe?

My thoughts:
Against His Will by Nancy Kelley is the third book in the Brides of Pemberley series, and probably my favorite. This book focuses on Kitty. She's a middle child of sorts and so little attention is paid to her in Pride and Prejudice. Kitty was once a very silly girl but with the help of Georgina and Elizabeth, she's grown up. Kitty is still Kitty, though she's grown into a nice young lady, she doesn't hesitate to speak her mind.

Sebastian Montgomery is not a new character to the Brides of Pemberley. In the previous book Sebastian tries to dissuade Kitty's attention because he doesn't mean to marry. But he suddenly comes into an Earldom and is forced by his mother to find a bride. She has a list of ladies but on impulse he tells his mother that he's already found his bride--Kitty. This comes as a shock to many people.

Now you might think this is just a simple love story with nothing else much going on. You'd be wrong to think that. It's more; so much more. While romance is blooming there's a dark shadow that hangs about. The previous Earl's death was not accidental like everyone thought, and it appears Sebastian might be the next victim.

I love that Nancy Kelley writes about some of the lesser known characters from Pride and Prejudice. We've seen Kitty grow up over this series and now get her HEA. The story line was entertaining and exciting. I love Kitty and Sebastian as a couple. The Earl is not your average hero. At times he is clueless and thoughtless. Kitty is not demure or dainty. Yet their characters fit well together.

Overall this is a very entertaining read. I hope that Nancy Kelley continues to write about these beloved characters. If you're a fan of Pride and Prejudice, you should check out this book!
