In today’s market, there are so many amazing novels to choose from that as an author you really have to stand out. Not only with excellent writing, and a catchy title, but also with a beautiful cover that’s visually appealing to readers.

When I approached the cover design for Revelation, I did so from a marketing perspective. I knew it had to pop off the shelf, stand up against other amazing designs, and speak to the reader visually since it is their first impression of the story.

As the author, I wanted the cover to be a visual summary of what the overall story was about, without giving away the plotline or paranormal elements. That’s a difficult thing to accomplish, especially in the paranormal genre.

The cover of Revelation was a collaboration between an amazing cover artist, Claudia McKinney at Phatpuppy Art Studios and myself. Claudia had designed Samantha Young’s, On Dublin Street cover which I happen to love, so I knew she’d have a good handle on the visual element.

When Claudia and I first spoke we clicked immediately, which was fantastic. I feel that she perfectly captured the dark and mysterious feel of the storyline by pulling out the moody and brooding elements through the use of grey and blue tones, as well as the rain. To symbolize the divine secret within the novel, we use ominous clouds and sky.

Truthfully, I was really against using a cover model for the protector element because I didn’t want the reader to use the model as a preconceived visual as to what the characters look like. I really wanted to take the reader on that ride visually with the written words. However, I think Claudia did an amazing job of incorporating the key elements of the individuals, and paranormal elements, without turning the model into one of the characters.  Authors Reveal: Cover Model is NOT an Angel!

Overall, I’m excited with how the cover turned out and hope that readers feel the same way. I can’t wait for you to see the rest of the covers in the series as well!

I have a name, and it’s not sweetheart
I swallow. Between his scent and nearness, my body is overheating. “Shows how much you know. I prefer salty versus sweet,” I throw back at him, proud that my voice sounds strong.
It would be in my best interest to gather my dignity and just walk away. This infuriating guy is getting under my skin by distracting me with insults that appear to be compliments.
He snorts and gives me an insolent smile. “Yeah, I can tell sweet isn’t your thing, sweetheart.”
My jaw tightens. “I have a name, and it’s not sweetheart,” I snap.
He crosses his arms, amused at my outburst, and gives me a crooked smile. “What would that name be?”
“Eve Collins,” I offer in an even tone.
“Eve,” he says in a husky voice. The way my name rolls off his tongue does crazy
things to my body. I secretly curse his good looks for causing my stomach muscles to clench and the butterflies to take flight.
“Eve,” he repeats, as some form of understanding sinks in. “Without doubt, a suitable name for you.” The cute guy stands taller and puffs his chest out in some sort of proud posture.
“Meaning?” I question tersely.
“Wasn’t Eve the mother of mankind? Of course, she was also seen as weak, allowing evil to succeed in tempting her to the forbidden.” He challenges me with his eyes.
